Introduction
What's in a name
In 1932, the Windmill Theatre in Soho began staging a continuous revue of song, dance, comedy and variety, and gave it a name: Revudeville.
The shows became legend. The Windmill Girls became the most famous faces in London. And the theatre’s proudest boast “We Never Closed” was earned the hard way, playing on through the Blitz while bombs fell on the West End, the only theatre in London that never went dark. Along the way, its stage launched a generation of British comedy: Peter Sellers, Tony Hancock and Bruce Forsyth all cut their teeth in front of the Windmill’s famously demanding crowds.
Ninety years later, Jari directed the cabaret at that same theatre and when he started his own company, there was really only one name for it.
Revudeville is our tip of the hat to the golden age of variety. We think that spirit deserves more than a place in the history books. We put it back on stage!

Jari Laakso
Jari has spent over a decade directing theatre, cabaret, circus and variety, from Soho’s most famous stage to shows across Europe, Australia and Canada.
He directed the cabaret at the legendary Windmill Soho from its 2021 relaunch, filling one of London’s most storied stages night after night. Before that, he toured internationally as associate creative on La Soirée, the Olivier Award-winning show that redefined what cabaret could be, and on Majestique, a cabaret circus spectacular in Denmark and Canada.
Along the way he’s created entertainment for brands, agencies, festivals, weddings and parties of every description—and when he’s not doing that, he lectures in musical theatre at Goldsmiths, University of London.
